Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 August 2026
This policy covers the website at steveharrison.dev and the macOS app Salary Ticker. Both are operated by Steve Harrison, an individual developer based in Australia.
Salary Ticker (the macOS app)
Salary Ticker does not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data.
The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. It makes no network connections whatsoever, so nothing you enter can leave your Mac.
The settings you enter, such as your daily pay figure and your day start and end times, are
stored locally on your Mac using the standard macOS preferences system
(UserDefaults, under the identifier com.salaryticker.app). They are
never uploaded anywhere, and I have no way to see them.
Deleting the app removes it from your Mac. To remove its stored preferences as well, run
defaults delete com.salaryticker.app in Terminal.
The app is distributed from this website and is signed and notarised by Apple under Apple
Developer Team ID 8RTPS5KUF8. Apple may log notarisation checks when you first
launch the app; that is a function of macOS itself and is covered by
Apple's privacy policy.
This website
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people visit and which links they click. This sets cookies in your browser and sends Google information such as your approximate location, browser, device type, and the pages you view. I use this only in aggregate, to see what is worth writing more of.
I never see your name or email address through analytics. If you would rather not be counted, you can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, use your browser's tracking protection, or block the script. Nothing on this site depends on analytics working. Google's handling of this data is covered by Google's privacy policy.
Newsletter
If you choose to subscribe to the newsletter, your email address is submitted to and stored by Buttondown, which sends the emails on my behalf. I use your address only to send you new articles. I do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone else. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
Hosting and embedded content
Like most websites, the server hosting this site may keep standard access logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability. Some pages embed content from third parties such as YouTube or link to external sites; those providers have their own privacy policies, and this policy does not cover them.
Your rights
You can ask me what personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, and ask me to delete it. In practice the only personal information I hold directly is a newsletter email address, if you gave me one. Email me and I will action any request. If you are in the EU or UK, or anywhere else with equivalent data protection law, the same applies to you.
Some of the services above, including Google Analytics and Buttondown, are based overseas, so information collected through them may be stored or processed outside Australia.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, I will update the date at the top of this page.
